Cross country races are through the winter months, often in the rain with plenty of mud. Walton AC are in the Surrey XC League, various XC championships, some ad hoc events such as the Priory Park Relays and our juniors also take part in the Border League.

Races vary in distance with senior ladies between 6km – 8km and mens 8- 14km depending on the race league. Juniors are often shorter starting at 1500m and becoming longer as you move up the age groups.

Race terrain varies race by race and can often be determined by the weather. Courses may include long hills, short hills, technical challenges, grass and trails.

All the league events are free to enter if you are a member of our club, you just need to have a club vest and confirm availability.

Training

Our juniors train in the Academy and Satellite groups.

Our middle and long distance student, senior and master runners all train together under Coach Jamie McLoughlin. We have team training plans and sessions and we encourage our runners to get together outside of these as well to complete other training, fostering a social atmosphere.

Team training

We know that everyone has different availability based on their own personal situations so training is not compulsory, it’s there if you can make it, so come along if you can. Examples of the training we do:

Mondays – Strength and Conditioning, the Hub, Walton (not all year round)
Tuesdays – Walton Track or Brooklands Community Park
Saturdays – Hill training and Parkrun
Sundays – Long social run, various locations across path and trails – Walton, Staines and Surrey Hills to name a few.
