Final positions on the day: Hercules Wimbledon [303], Walton [279], City of Portsmouth [274], Havant [200], Croydon [193], and Kingston & Polytechnic [153].
We had multiple SAL debutants in both the Men’s and Women’s scoring strings picking up vital points and contributing to that close finish, plus some incredible relay running with two 3rd placings and two matching winning squads to round off a phenomenal day of athletics.
Over on the men’s side; a big welcome to Stephen Carpenter, Aiden Mothershaw, Matthew Wellinger, Eashan Patel, Maddox Valter, Conrad Wandt, Jack Dawson, Humphrey Pedlar and Nicholas Grobler – taking the track and field events by storm, this group picked up 74pts out of the total, and we look forward to you picking up many more across this season! We also had impressive performances from club regulars Jonathan Hiorns, Martin Willis, and the two Rob Smith’s! Well done team!
Onto our ladies; we welcome Connie Flory, Amy McLoughlin, Seren Pinnington-Jones, and Natalie Sacre to the team – a whopping 52pts from the ladies with all of them picking up maximum points in at least one of their events, winning streaks we hope continue long into the season and those to come! Leading our newcomers by example were club regulars Kate Raven, Susie McLoughlin, Oluwatobi Aderoju, Martina Brayley, Tori-Ann Anderson and Mandy Ruks also picking up wins in their A & B string events! Superbly done!
Our Men’s relay 4x100m relay squad of Eashan Pate, Maddox Valter, Aiden Mothershaw, and Harry Livesey picked up a well-earned 3rd place, overtaking Croydon and just getting pipped on the line by City of Portsmouth. The 4x400m relay squad of Jack Dawson, Conrad Wandt, Jonathan Hiorns, and Matthew Wellinger also placed 3rd, running out of track and missing out on 2nd place by 0.07secs!!
Our Ladies carried their winning form in their individual events into the relays – our 4x100m team of Kate Raven, Connie Flory, Seren Pinnington-Jones, and Amy McLoughlin placed first in a closely contested race, taking the win from Hercules Wimbledon on the photo finish! Following on from this, in a true display of professionalism, we went from having no women’s 4x400m team, to a team being formed and winning the event! Congratulations to Susie McLoughlin, Virginia Mitchell, Natasha Hart, and Kate Raven on the anchor, winning by a whole 5secs! A great end and a great example set to all the athletes on teamwork and not shying away from the relays!
Our next fixture takes us to Swindon on June 22nd – we look forward to many more performances there!
