A very competitive and entertaining race saw a fast finish for the men’s title with the top 3 teams separated by just 5 seconds. After solid contributions from Robert Smith (15:31), Duncan Woolmer (15:34), and Alfie Pike (15:29), Matthew McKenna ran the third fastest individual time of the day (14:12) to claim second place for Walton Men A, pipping Croydon by just 2 seconds and falling only 3 second shy of Crawley, the event winners. An excellent team effort for the second men’s podium finish in 3 years.
The women’s team also had a great outing, with Alex Morrice (17:18), Ellie Reimer (17:51), Alex Slotwinska (18:13), and Michelle Tafili (20:01). This was good enough for fourth place in the women’s standings, the highest finish for a women’s team since 2014.
Walton men B comprised of Charlie Hobbs (15:54), Nicholas Grobler (16:06), Sam Holloway (17:07), and Ben Harling (16:35), all running strong legs to finish 7th in the men’s standings.
Walton men C finished 9th, to make it 3 teams in the top 10, with legs from Stephen Carpenter (17:11), Peter Musumeci (18:05), Paul Davie on his Walton debut (17:41), and Robert Smith on his second leg of the day (16:08).
A brilliant day all around, well done everyone.
