10th February saw the final match of the U15/17 male 2023/24 season at West Horsley. It was a new venue for cross-country and was conveniently local with well-appointed facilities. Because of the recent deluges, unfortunately, the same positivity could not be applied to the course.
I always think it takes a certain kind of grittiness to put oneself out there as a cross-country runner in the British winter, and this was exemplified by the quagmire on Saturday. All three Walton athletes: Christian Boyd, Jake Goodman and Lewis Bainbridge reported that the conditions made the 4.4kms course a complete slog. They all saw out their cross-country season by crossing the finish line (in the order above) in well under 20 minutes. The club would like to offer a huge thanks to them and their supporting parents for representing WAC in the league.
I hope their competitive experiences during the winter crossover to their endeavours on the track during the summer.
