A collective effort from all clubs involved, providing a few marshals each, meant that the match could go ahead at the new location a few weeks later.  Thanks to Lucy McKenna and Ellie Reimer for putting themselves forward to assist in marshalling for Walton.  The league has asked me to pass on their thanks for your help.

Now on to the race…

It was a fine day, mild and a little breezy, excellent weather for running.  The course however, was extremely muddy and challenging for the competitors, with reports of multiple slips ending in a covering for some.  Walton had three runners in the U17 boys race, all first-timers for the club at cross-country.

The boys acquitted themselves well in a very strong field over the 4.3km course, all showing their strength with fast finishes.  Jack Dawson was the first home in 51st position with a time of 15.54.  A great run from Jack, who has shown good form over the past few weeks on the track and in parkruns.

Thomas McKenna was only 20 seconds behind in 57th place, passing 2 or 3 athletes in a very strong finish. Well done Thomas.

Our third athlete across the line was Nicholas Chaplin in 74th place, with a time of 16:52. Making it all three Walton athletes within a minute of each other.  An excellent showing from all.
